Meeting the regulations to ensure a safe environment, developing plans of correction when an incident happens and then ensuring staff follow the plan of correction can seem like an insurmountable task. Using a person-centered approach we will explore ideas that tap into staff and patient passions as a means of keeping residents meaningfully engaged and safe. We will review ways to contrast the environment taking into consideration the medical and cultural needs of those you serve.
This all day program is appropriate for all levels of staff. Leadership is strongly encouraged to attend as they are the gate keepers for cultural and environmental shifts. Participants will:
State environmental and operational challenges as it relates to safety and the work environment
Learn methods in creating environmental contrast and meaningful engagement with patients as a means to quell so-called wandering
Identify ways to expend energy and promote sleep with patients
Understand cognitive challenges with safety and ways to engage and divert attention
Create an environment where all staff participate in person-centric plans that create meaning and safety
